Helius Inc. of Lindon, Utah, said it will begin manufacturing its own Digital Video Broadcast satellite interface cards in order to fully integrate its Helius Optimized software with the hardware interface.

The company said it expects to produce the DVB card within the next two months. This will give the company complete independence to make quick modifications and customize the product for various applications and platforms.

Helius said it will design its DVB interface cards to operate at a broad range of transponder rates, allowing customers to use the same equipment for both high- and low-bandwidth applications.

The company plans to bundle the interface card with its Helius Optimized software, which will give OEMs the opportunity to license and customer-brand the Helius product.

"Producing our own satellite interface card is significant because it provides us with an additional tool to compete in our marketplace," said Myron Mosbarger, president and CEO of Helius.

"In the past we have outsourced production of these cards," he said. "By producing the card ourselves, we will enhance and integrate it for our routers as well for other company products."

Helius develops technologies for broadband satellite applications such as Internet Protocol multicasting, content distribution and interactive Internet applications. Its corporate parent is the Ray Noorda/Canopy Group Investment Co.
